Biggest wild dog. The grey wolf is the largest wild member of the dog family, Canidae. It has a longer tail and rounder ears than its cousins.

Two continents. Wolves are native to both Eurasia and North America, living everywhere from snowy forests to open tundra.

Arctic white coats. Most wolves have mottled fur of white, brown, grey, and black, but wolves in the Arctic can be almost completely white to blend into the snow.

Related to dogs. Dogs and dingoes are actually subspecies of the wolf, and wolves are close enough to coyotes and jackals to have hybrid pups with them.

Many subspecies. Scientists recognize more than thirty subspecies of Canis lupus, showing just how varied wolves can be.
