More than 200 kinds. Owls belong to a group called Strigiformes, and there are over 200 different species around the world.

Night hunters. Most owls are nocturnal, meaning they hunt at night using their amazing eyes and ears.

Eyes facing forward. Like us, owls have eyes that point forward, giving them binocular vision to judge distance perfectly.

Silent wings. Special feathers let owls fly almost without a sound, so their prey never hears them coming.

A few oddballs. Not all owls follow the rules, the northern hawk-owl hunts in daylight, and burrowing owls live in groups.
