Waterbird family. Ducks belong to the same family as swans and geese, but they're usually smaller with shorter necks.

Fresh or salty. Ducks are mostly water birds and can live in freshwater ponds and rivers or even in salty seawater.

Many kinds. There isn't just one type of duck, the name covers lots of different species all over the world.

Not quite cousins. Even though they're related, swans and geese aren't actually counted as ducks!
