Cool facts
All white. The beluga is the only whale that is regularly white, which makes it easy to spot in the cold Arctic seas.
Sea canary. Belugas make so many high-pitched chirps, whistles, and squeaks that sailors nicknamed them the "sea canary."
Narwhal cousin. The beluga's only close living relative is the narwhal, the whale with a long spiral tusk. Together they make up a small whale family.
Bumpy forehead. The round bump on a beluga's head is called a "melon," which helps it make and aim its sounds.
Cold lover. Belugas live in the chilly waters of the Arctic and sub-Arctic, where few other whales swim.
