Cool facts
So many kinds. There are over three hundred species of roses and tens of thousands of cultivars that gardeners have created over the years.
Rainbow of colors. Roses bloom in white, pink, red, orange, and yellow, often with big, showy petals.
Climbing champions. Some roses are small shrubs, but climbing roses can reach up to 7 metres (23 feet) tall!
Watch the prickles. Many rose stems have sharp prickles, which people often call thorns, to protect the plant.
Woody and long-lived. A rose is a woody perennial, meaning it comes back year after year and belongs to the rose family, Rosaceae.
