Family ties. Geese belong to the same bird family as ducks and swans. Swans are usually bigger than geese, and ducks are usually smaller.

True geese. The 'true geese' come from two groups called Anser and Branta. Some other birds are called geese too, but scientists don't count them as the real thing.

V formation. Geese often fly in a V shape. Flying this way helps them save energy on long journeys.

Built for water. As waterfowl, geese are right at home swimming on ponds and lakes with their webbed feet.
