Pincers and stinger. Scorpions have eight legs, two grasping pincers, and a narrow tail that curves over their back, always ending in a stinger.
Super ancient. Scorpions have been around for about 430 million years, since the Silurian Period, long before the dinosaurs!
Almost everywhere. They live mostly in deserts but have adapted to many places and can be found on every continent except Antarctica.
Tons of species. Scientists have described over 2,500 different species of scorpions, sorted into 22 living families.
Spider cousins. Scorpions are arachnids, which means they're related to spiders, ticks, and mites.
