Cool facts
A real sword. Swordfish are named for their long, flat, pointed bill that looks just like a sword. They're the only members of their fish family, called Xiphiidae.
Big and long. They commonly grow to about 3 meters (10 feet) long. The biggest one ever reported was 4.55 meters and weighed 650 kg (1,430 pounds)!
World travelers. These highly migratory fish swim all over the tropical and warmer parts of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans.
Deep divers. They usually swim from near the surface down to about 550 meters (1,800 feet), but have been found as deep as 2,878 meters (9,442 feet).
No teeth or scales. Baby swordfish have teeth and scales, but adults lose all of them as they grow up.
