Horse of the sea. Its name comes from Greek words for 'horse' and 'sea monster' because its head and neck look just like a tiny horse. There are 46 different species of them!
Surprise, it's a fish. Even though it doesn't look like a typical fish, the seahorse really is a bony fish, swimming upright instead of lying flat.
Grippy tail. A seahorse has a curled, grippy tail called a prehensile tail that it uses to hold onto seaweed and coral so it doesn't drift away.
Built-in armor. Instead of regular scales, seahorses are covered in segmented bony armor that protects their bodies.
Dads carry babies. In seahorse families, it's the father who carries the eggs in a special pouch until the tiny babies are born.
