Rhyme and rhythm. Rappers use rhyming words and keep a steady rhythm when they perform, making their words bounce along with the music in a pattern that sounds cool and feels good.

Flow is everything. Flow means how a rapper moves their words around the beat, speeding up or slowing down to match the music perfectly, kind of like how a dancer moves to a song.

Talking, not singing. Rapping is different from singing because rappers speak their words at the same pitch instead of changing their voice up and down like singers do.

Always needs a beat. Rapping almost always happens over musical accompaniment or a backing beat, which gives the words a foundation to ride on.

Three key parts. Great rap has content (what you're saying), flow (how you say it), and delivery (the energy and attitude you bring to it).
