Cool facts
Matching end sounds. A rhyme happens when two or more words have the same sound at the end, like 'cat' and 'bat' or 'moon' and 'June.' These matching sounds are usually in the stressed syllable and everything after it, making words feel like they belong together.
Creative tool in art. Poets and songwriters use rhymes on purpose to make their work sound musical and pretty to the ear. When you hear a rhyme, your brain notices the pattern, and that makes the words more memorable and fun to listen to.
Many types exist. Not all rhymes are exactly the same. Some rhymes are perfect, like 'cat' and 'hat,' while others are looser and just sound kind of similar. Different types of rhyming can create different feelings in a poem or song.
Nursery rhymes for kids. Nursery rhymes are short, bouncy poems that often use rhymes to help little kids learn and remember words. 'Twinkle, twinkle, little star' is a famous nursery rhyme that's been passed down through generations because the rhymes make it so catchy.
Makes words stick. Rhymes help you remember lines and ideas better because your brain loves recognizing patterns. That's why songs with rhymes get stuck in your head, and why so many famous poems use rhyming to make their messages last longer in your memory.
