King of bears. Polar bears are the largest bears alive, with adult males weighing up to 800 kg (1,760 lb), about as much as a small car!

Black skin surprise. Their fur looks white or yellowish, but underneath it their skin is actually black.

Built-in snowshoes. Their huge paws help them walk across slippery ice and paddle through cold water like furry oars.

Sharp meat-eater. Unlike their brown bear cousins, polar bears have sharper teeth made for cutting meat, plus a thick layer of fat to stay warm.

Big and small. Males are much larger than females, a difference scientists call being 'sexually dimorphic.'
