Newspaper's brilliant idea. The Giro d'Italia was created in 1909 by a newspaper called La Gazzetta dello Sport to sell more copies. It worked so well that the race is still going strong over a hundred years later.

Loops through Italy. This is an annual race that happens every year in Italy, following different routes through the country's mountains, valleys, and coastlines. Riders compete across multiple stages over several weeks.

Global competition. At first, almost all the racers were from Italy, but now cyclists from all around the world come to compete in the Giro. It's one of cycling's most important international events.
