Cool facts
Made from flowers. When a flower gets pollinated, the part called the ovary starts to grow and transform into a fruit. This is nature's clever way of protecting the seeds inside.
Protects precious seeds. The fruit's hard or thick skin keeps the seeds safe from damage, drying out, and being eaten before they're ready to grow into new plants.
Animals help spread them. When animals eat fruits, they swallow the seeds and carry them far away in their stomachs, then drop them in new places where they can sprout into plants.
Comes in endless varieties. Fruits aren't always sweet and juicy like apples and berries. Some are crunchy nuts, some are dry pods, and some are hard shells, but they all hold seeds inside.
Part of the reproduction cycle. Making fruit is how flowering plants have babies. Without fruits, flowering plants wouldn't be able to create new plants and spread across the world.
