Born from an argument. Sir Hugh Beaver came up with the idea to settle debates people were having in pubs, like which bird flies fastest. A book of facts could end the arguing!
Started in 1955. Twin brothers Norris and Ross McWhirter co-founded the book in London in late August 1955.
It changed its name. From 1955 until 1999 it was called The Guinness Book of Records before becoming Guinness World Records.
Records of all kinds. It lists amazing human achievements as well as the extremes of the natural world, and a fresh edition comes out every year.
