Named for their bottle shape. Bottlenose dolphins get their name from their cute, rounded snout that looks like a bottle. They're part of the dolphin family and are toothed whales, not fish!
Live worldwide in warm water. You can find bottlenose dolphins in warm and temperate seas everywhere on Earth, except for the freezing Arctic and Antarctic regions. They love comfortable temperatures!
Three main species exist. Scientists have discovered there are actually three different species of bottlenose dolphins: the common bottlenose dolphin, the Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin, and Tamanend's bottlenose dolphin. Each one lives in slightly different places.
Toothy and skilled hunters. Bottlenose dolphins have real teeth that help them catch fish and squid. They're part of a big family of ocean dolphins called Delphinidae that all have teeth.
