A famous list. The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World is a list of seven incredible buildings and monuments that existed during ancient times. People made the list to celebrate the most impressive things humans had built.

Old idea, newer list. The wonders come from classical antiquity, but the famous list of seven was put together later, partly using old historical writings, and appeared in a 1572 book called Octo Mundi Miracula.

Why seven?. Ancient people loved the number seven, so picking exactly seven wonders made the list feel complete and special.

Spread around. The wonders were scattered across the ancient world, in places people could travel to and marvel at in person.
