Cool facts
Woodwind family. The flute belongs to the woodwind group, even though modern ones are usually made of metal.
Air does the work. A flute makes sound when the player blows air across an opening, making a column of air inside vibrate.
Edge-blown aerophone. Scientists who classify instruments call the flute an 'edge-blown aerophone' because you blow against an edge, not into a reed.
Got a name for it. A person who plays the flute is called a flautist or a flutist.
