Snakes for hair. In Greek mythology, Medusa was a woman with living, hissing snakes instead of hair.

Stone stare. Her appearance was so frightening that anyone who looked directly at her turned into stone.

Three Gorgons. Medusa was one of three sisters called the Gorgons, along with Euryale and Stheno.

The mortal one. Unlike her two sisters, Medusa was the only Gorgon who was mortal.

Sea parents. She was usually described as a daughter of the sea gods Phorcys and Ceto.
