Five on five. Each team has five players on a rectangular court, all trying to shoot the ball through the hoop at their end.
Worth different points. A basket usually counts for two points, but if you shoot from behind the three-point line, it's worth three!
Free throws. When a player is fouled, the game pauses and they get free throws worth one point each, with no defenders blocking.
Overtime time. If the score is tied when time runs out, the teams play extra periods called overtime until someone leads.
Offense and defense. Teams take turns attacking the hoop and defending their own, switching back and forth all game long.
