Massive Teeth. Wolf eels have enormous jaws filled with sharp teeth that look terrifying, but they use them to crush hard-shelled prey like sea urchins, crabs, and clams living on the rocky seafloor.
Deep Ocean Hunter. These fish live in the cold depths of the North Pacific Ocean, hiding in rocky crevices and caves where they hunt for food.
Not Really an Eel. Even though it's called a wolf eel, it's actually a ray-finned fish from the wolf fish family, not a true eel at all, which is why scientists call it by its special scientific name, Anarrhichthys.
Stays With One Partner. Wolf eels are known for finding a mate and staying together for many years, sometimes even living in the same rocky home their whole lives.
