Trains on a track. A roller coaster is really a railroad on stilts, with open cars hooked together that zoom along a track full of steep slopes and tight turns.
Round trip. Most coasters are built as a complete loop, so the train leaves the loading station and comes right back to the same spot.
Thrills or chills. Many coasters are designed to be super exciting, but some are gentle so younger riders can enjoy them too.
Six thousand strong. A special database counted over 6,000 roller coasters around the world as of January 2026.
Surprising spots. You'll find coasters mostly in amusement parks, but some are tucked inside shopping malls and even zoos!
