Held every four years. The Winter Olympics happen once every four years, usually in February when it is winter in the Northern Hemisphere. This gives athletes time to train and countries time to prepare.
Multi-sport extravaganza. Athletes from around the world compete in many different sports on snow and ice, including skiing, figure skating, ice hockey, snowboarding, bobsledding, and curling.
Run by the IOC. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is in charge of the Olympic Movement and created the Olympic Charter, which is like the rulebook for how the Olympics work.
Italy hosts 2026. Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo in Italy will host the Winter Olympics in 2026, bringing the competition to the European Alps.
France coming in 2030. The next Winter Olympics after 2026 will be held in the French Alps between February 1 and 17, 2030.
