Cool facts
Bendy nose. A tapir has a short, flexible trunk-like snout it can use to grab leaves and fruit, kind of like a mini elephant trunk.
Plant eaters. Tapirs are herbivores, munching on leaves, fruit, and other plants in jungles and forests.
Surprising cousins. Even though they look like pigs, tapirs are actually related to horses and rhinoceroses!
Two faraway homes. Tapirs live in the forests of South and Central America and also in Southeast Asia, on the other side of the world.
Ancient travelers. Long ago tapirs lived in North America too, but they disappeared there about 12,000 years ago.
