Family ties. Swans are close cousins of geese and ducks, all part of the same bird family called Anatidae.

Big and powerful. Swans are the largest waterfowl and are often among the biggest flying birds in their area.

Heavyweight fliers. Even though they're huge, swans can take to the air and fly long distances.

Their own group. Scientists place swans in the genus Cygnus, grouping them with geese in a tribe called Cygnini.
