Cool facts
Massive stones. The outer ring is made of huge sarsen stones, each about 13 feet tall and weighing around 25 tons, heavier than several cars!
Stone puzzle pieces. The upright stones are topped by horizontal stones held in place with special joints, like a giant prehistoric jigsaw.
Sun lined up. Stonehenge points toward the sunrise on the summer solstice and the sunset on the winter solstice.
Super old. It was built during the Neolithic and Bronze Age, long before there were written records or modern tools.
Bluestones inside. Inside the big ring is a circle of smaller stones called bluestones, set among ancient earthworks.
