Cool facts
Dogs save lives. Search and rescue dogs have incredibly sensitive noses that can smell a person from miles away, even buried under rubble or snow. Handlers train these amazing animals for years to find lost hikers, earthquake survivors, and people in water.
Mountains need experts. Mountain rescue teams are trained to climb steep cliffs and navigate dangerous peaks to reach stranded climbers. They know how to use ropes, ice axes, and special equipment to save people who are stuck in dangerous places.
Water rescues are tough. Air-sea rescue teams rush out over the ocean in boats and helicopters to help people in trouble at sea, from sinking ships to swimmers caught in strong currents. They work in all kinds of weather, even storms.
Cities have own teams. Urban search and rescue handles emergencies in cities, like finding people trapped in collapsed buildings after earthquakes or accidents. These teams use special equipment to listen for sounds and locate survivors.
Training never stops. Search and rescue workers practice constantly with realistic scenarios so they're ready for any emergency. They learn survival skills, first aid, navigation, and how to work as a team under pressure.
