Built for swimming. Penguins can't fly, but their wings have turned into flippers that push them through the water like little torpedoes.
Mostly down south. Almost all penguins live in the Southern Hemisphere. Only the Galapagos penguin lives near the equator, slightly north of it.
Tuxedo camouflage. Their dark backs and white bellies are called countershading. From above they blend with the dark sea, and from below with the bright sky.
Spiky tongue grip. Penguins have a spiny tongue and powerful jaws to hold onto slippery fish, squid, and krill, which they swallow whole while swimming.
