Master of many arts. Michelangelo wasn't just a sculptor or painter, he was incredible at sculpting, painting, architecture, and even writing poetry. He could do it all, which made him the ultimate Renaissance man.
Carved the David. He created one of the world's most famous sculptures, the David, from a single block of marble that other artists thought was ruined. It took him about two years to finish this masterpiece.
Painted the Sistine Chapel. Michelangelo spent years painting the massive ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome, lying on his back high above the ground and creating incredible scenes from the Bible.
Born in Florence. He was born in the Italian city of Florence but spent most of his adult life in Rome, where he created some of his greatest works.
Well-documented genius. We know a lot about Michelangelo's life because he left behind tons of letters, sketches, and notes. He's one of the best-documented artists from the 1500s.
