Painter for 70 years. Georgia O'Keeffe spent seven decades creating art, which is an incredibly long career. She kept painting and drawing throughout her whole life without stopping.

Flowers as huge paintings. O'Keeffe is famous for painting flowers in enormous, close-up views that make them look like whole landscapes. When people saw her flower paintings, they were amazed at how big and bold they were.

Desert inspired her. She lived in New Mexico and fell in love with the desert's colors, rocks, and empty spaces. Many of her most beautiful paintings came from the landscapes she saw around her home.

Mother of modernism. People call O'Keeffe the 'Mother of American modernism' because she helped start a new style of art that was totally different from what came before. She showed that American artists could be just as creative and important as European ones.

Independent artist. O'Keeffe didn't follow the trends of other famous art movements of her time. She created her own style and stuck with it, which made her work truly unique and special.
