Peaceful Power. Gandhi believed the best way to fight injustice was through nonviolence, not war or weapons. His idea of peaceful protest became so powerful that it helped free India and inspired people fighting for freedom everywhere.
Lawyer and Leader. Gandhi trained as a lawyer and used his knowledge to challenge unfair British laws in India. He showed that one person's ideas about justice could change an entire nation.
The Name Mahatma. People started calling him "Mahatma," which means "Great Soul" in Sanskrit, because of his wisdom and kindness. This name spread around the world and is how most people know him today.
India's Freedom. Gandhi led the campaign that convinced Britain to let India become independent in 1947. His peaceful methods proved that you don't need violence to win against powerful enemies.
