Tiny spheres. Marbles are small round toys that usually measure between 0.5 and 3.5 centimeters across, about the size of your pinky fingernail to a large grape.
Many materials. Marbles can be made from glass, clay, steel, plastic, or agate stone, and people love collecting them for their beautiful colors and patterns.
Games and races. Kids play all sorts of marble games trying to knock marbles around, and they also use them in marble runs where the spheres race down twisting tracks.
English marble names. In northern England, marbles are called "taws," and the bigger ones are nicknamed "bottle washers" because they were actually used inside special Codd-neck bottles to keep drinks fresh!
Collectible treasures. People collect marbles for fun and nostalgia, keeping them safe in bags or cases because of their pretty designs and smooth glass surfaces.
