Eleven vs. eleven. Two teams of eleven players each face off on a rectangular field with tall goalposts at both ends.
Four chances. The team with the ball gets four tries, called downs, to move it at least ten yards. Make it, and they earn four fresh chances!
Touchdown. The biggest way to score is carrying or catching the ball into the opponent's end zone for a touchdown.
Field goal kick. Teams can also score by kicking the ball through the opponent's goalposts for a field goal.
Overtime. If the score is tied after four quarters, the game keeps going into overtime to decide a winner.
