Made in Japan. Judo was created in 1882 by a teacher named Kanō Jigorō. It grew out of older Samurai fighting styles.
Throws, not punches. Judo removed striking and weapons. Instead, players focus on clever throws and grappling to win.
Olympic sport. Judo is competed at the Olympics, Paralympics, and Commonwealth Games all around the world.
Special outfit. The judo uniform is called a 'judogi,' and a person who practices judo is called a 'judoka.'
Police approved. Judo became famous after beating older jujutsu schools in tournaments, so Tokyo police adopted it as their main martial art.
