Six a side. Each team has six players, and they try to ground the ball on the other team's court to score points.

Olympic since 1964. Volleyball has been part of the Summer Olympic Games ever since the Tokyo 1964 Games.

Beach version. Beach volleyball joined the Olympics at the Atlanta 1996 Games, played on sand with smaller teams.

Sitting volleyball. At the Paralympic Games, athletes play a seated version called sitting volleyball.
