Many skills in one. Gymnastics needs balance, strength, flexibility, agility, coordination, artistry, and endurance all at once. That's a lot for one sport!
Full-body workout. The moves build muscles in your arms, legs, shoulders, back, chest, and tummy. Gymnasts are surprisingly strong!
Ancient Greek roots. Gymnastics grew out of exercises used by the ancient Greeks, including skills for jumping on and off a horse.
That's why it's a 'horse'. Old horse-mounting skills are why some gymnastics equipment, like the pommel horse and vault, still has 'horse' in its name.
