Mighty mane. Adult male lions grow a thick mane of hair around their head, shoulders, and chest. Females don't have one, which makes it easy to tell them apart.

Where they live. Today wild lions are found in Sub-Saharan Africa and a small part of India. They once roamed across much more of the world.

Built strong. Lions have muscular, broad-chested bodies, round heads, and round ears, making them powerful hunters.

Tail tuft. A lion has a dark, hairy tuft at the very tip of its tail, a feature most other cats don't have.
