Built by Daedalus. A legendary craftsman named Daedalus designed and constructed the Labyrinth for King Minos on the island of Crete. Daedalus was so skilled at making confusing passages that he almost couldn't find his way out of his own creation.
Trapped the Minotaur. The Labyrinth was built specifically to hold a terrifying creature called the Minotaur, which was half human and half bull. King Minos needed a secure prison for this dangerous monster that no one could escape from.
Theseus defeated it. The hero Theseus entered the seemingly impossible maze and managed to find and defeat the Minotaur. He used a ball of thread to mark his path so he could find his way back out of the confusing passages.
Thread saves the day. According to the myth, Theseus's clever idea of unrolling thread as he walked through the Labyrinth allowed him to retrace his steps and escape. This smart strategy turned an impossible task into a solvable puzzle.
Still fascinates us. The story of the Labyrinth has inspired countless maze designs, artworks, and stories for thousands of years. People are still drawn to the idea of elaborate puzzles that are difficult to navigate.
