Cool facts
World's biggest lizard. Komodo dragons are the largest lizards alive today. Big males can grow up to 3 meters (10 feet) long and weigh as much as 150 kg (330 pounds)!
Island home. They live only on a few Indonesian islands, including Komodo, Rinca, and Flores. Many of them are protected inside Komodo National Park.
A real dragon. They belong to the monitor lizard family called Varanidae, and they really do look like the dragons from old stories.
Super smell. Like other monitor lizards, they flick their long forked tongue to 'taste' the air and sniff out food from far away.
