Only in the Americas. Hummingbirds live only in North, Central, and South America, from Alaska all the way down to the tip of South America called Tierra del Fuego.
A huge family. There are about 375 different species of hummingbirds, grouped into 113 genera. Most of them live in Central and South America.
Speedy hearts. Hummingbirds get their name from the humming sound their super-fast wings make as they beat dozens of times every second.
Some need help. As of 2026, 21 hummingbird species are endangered or critically endangered, and around 255 species are declining in number.
