Not a pig. Despite the name, guinea pigs are rodents, related to other furry animals like the wild Montane guinea pig.

Forever teeth. Their long front teeth never stop growing, so they chew constantly to keep them worn down to the right size.

Pocket-sized. A guinea pig usually weighs between 700 and 1,200 grams and measures about 20 to 25 centimeters long.

Social squeakers. They love company and are very social animals, often living happily in pairs or groups.

Freeze or flee. Guinea pigs are easily startled by noise or danger, and will either freeze still or dash away to stay safe.
