Queen of Two Worlds. Persephone is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter who became queen of the underworld after being taken by her uncle Hades. She rules the dark kingdom below while also representing life and growth on Earth.
Connected to Crops. Ancient Greeks saw Persephone as the spirit of grain and plants that grow from seeds buried in soil. When she's in the underworld, the earth stays cold and nothing grows, but when she returns to the surface, spring arrives and crops flourish.
