Wise old owl. Athena's special symbols included owls, olive trees, and snakes. That's why owls are still a symbol of wisdom today!
City protector. She was the patron and protectress of many Greek cities, especially Athens, which most likely got its name from her.
Wisdom and war. Athena was the goddess of wisdom, warfare, and handicraft. In art she's usually shown wearing a helmet and holding a spear.
Roman twin. The Romans matched Athena with their own goddess Minerva, blending the two together.
Many names. She was often called Pallas Athena, and known by both the names Athena and Athene.
