Feathery Shuttlecock. The birdie players hit isn't a ball, it's actually called a shuttlecock and has real feathers attached to it. This special design makes it flutter through the air in a unique way.
Singles or Doubles. You can play badminton one-on-one (singles) or in pairs (doubles). Most casual games are doubles, which means you and a partner work together against two opponents.
Net and Scoring. Players hit the shuttlecock back and forth over a net, trying to land it on the other team's side of the court. When your shot lands in bounds and they can't return it, you score a point!
Court or Beach. Badminton can be played almost anywhere, in your backyard, on a beach, or in a gym. Professional players compete on rectangular indoor courts where the game is super fast and intense.
Quick and Active. Badminton is all about quick reflexes and moving fast around the court. Even though the shuttlecock looks light and fluffy, top players hit it with incredible speed and control.
