Forever young. Axolotls are a type of mole salamander that never grow up the normal way. They stay in their water-baby form for life, even as adults!

Always underwater. Unlike most salamanders that move onto land, axolotls stay fully aquatic. They breathe through fancy feathery gills that stick out from their heads.

Amazing healers. Axolotls are famous for regrowing lost body parts, like limbs and even parts of organs, which makes scientists very curious about them.

Easy to mix up. They can be tricky to tell apart from the baby stage of other salamanders, like the tiger salamander or the mudpuppy.
