Theater and Drama. The City Dionysia was a huge festival where people gathered to watch plays and competitions. It honored Dionysus, the god of wine and celebration, and gave Athens some of its most famous theatrical moments.
Honoring Athena. The Panathenaea was a major festival celebrating Athena, the goddess who protected Athens. People paraded through the city, made sacrifices, and gave the goddess a special new robe embroidered by the finest craftspeople.
Family and Life Events. Many festivals marked important moments like births, coming of age ceremonies, and marriages. These celebrations brought families and communities together to recognize big life changes.
