Cool facts
Two bars at different heights. The uneven bars have one bar lower and one bar higher, which lets gymnasts swing from one to the other in amazing ways. This setup makes the event way more interesting than if both bars were the same height.
Made of strong fiberglass. The bars are built from fiberglass with a wood coating on top, or sometimes just plain wood. This material is flexible but strong enough to handle gymnasts swinging, flipping, and launching themselves through the air.
Chalk keeps hands sticky. Before they compete, gymnasts rub white chalk all over their hands so they don't slip off the bars. Think of it like the grip tape on a skateboard, but for fingers.
Bars are far apart. The bars are positioned at different widths and heights so gymnasts have to use flying skills to move between them. Some moves involve launching into the air to catch the other bar.
