Cool facts
Thousands of warriors. Over 8,000 terracotta soldiers were buried in pits near Emperor Qin Shi Huang's tomb around 2,200 years ago. Each one was sculpted to look unique, with different faces, hairstyles, and armor.
Made by hand. Ancient craftspeople sculpted each soldier from clay, carefully molding their bodies, heads, and armor pieces separately, then fitting them together like a puzzle.
Protecting the emperor. The Chinese people believed these clay warriors would guard the emperor in his afterlife, just like real soldiers protected him when he was alive.
Hidden for centuries. The terracotta army stayed buried and unknown until farmers digging a well accidentally discovered them in 1974, amazing the entire world.
No two soldiers alike. Each warrior has different facial features, expressions, and clothing, showing how skilled the ancient artists were at creating individual details.
