Cool facts
Three Olympic Sports. Sledding inspired three amazing Olympic events: luge (riders go headfirst), skeleton (similar to luge but faster), and bobsledding (a team sport with a heavy sled). All three start with the same idea, sliding fast on ice!
Positions Matter. You can sled sitting up like you're in a chair, or lying flat on your belly going super fast. Different positions make sledding feel totally different, some are speedy, some are more controlled.
Sleds Everywhere. In Russia, sledges aren't just for fun, people use them to fish on frozen lakes and even travel from island to island across the ice. Cold, snowy places have found clever ways to use sleds year-round!
Sand Sledding Too. You don't need snow to sled! When people sled on sand, it's called sandboarding, and it's just as exciting as sliding down snowy hills.
Sitting or Lying Down. Unlike most sports where you stand or run, sledding happens while you're either sitting or lying down on your vehicle, which makes it unique and super fun for all ages.
