The Bus Seat. In 1955, Rosa Parks was riding a bus in Montgomery, Alabama, when she was told to give up her seat to a white passenger because of segregation laws. She calmly refused, even though it was dangerous and against the law at that time.
Sparked a Movement. Rosa's brave decision led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott, where Black people stopped riding buses for 381 days to protest unfair treatment. This huge action helped change segregation laws across America.
Mother of Civil Rights. Because of her courage and what she started, Rosa Parks became known as the 'mother of the civil rights movement.' She showed the world that one person standing up for what's right can inspire millions.
A Lifelong Fighter. Rosa wasn't just brave on one day, she spent her whole life working for equality and justice. She traveled the country giving speeches and teaching people about civil rights.
